Classic Car Insurance Guarantees

In this section, we will discuss some important details about the various and possible guarantees that can be taken out in classic car insurance.

Variability among insurers

Not all insurers offer the same guarantees or apply the same limits. It is therefore essential to compare the conditions carefully before taking out insurance for your classic car.

Consult your Insurer or Mediator

Since there are significant differences between companies, we recommend that you consult directly with the insurer or broker with whom you plan to take out the policy. They will be able to clarify what cover is available and under what conditions.

Review of your current policy

If you already have an insurance policy, you can resolve many doubts by reviewing the Special Conditions and the General Conditions of your policy. These documents clearly detail the coverages included, the applicable limits and any relevant exclusions.

Compulsory Insurance (R.C.S.O.):

The compulsory insurance provided by law shall guarantee Civil Liability cover with the following quantitative limits.

* In Personal damages 70,000,000 Euros per claim (Whatever the number of victims).
* In Material damages 15.000.000 Euros per claim.

As it is regulated by law, this guarantee will cover the same capitals, regardless of the insurer, and will be updated according to the European consumer price index.

It must be taken into account that the compulsory insurance does not cover damages or losses caused by injuries or death of the driver himself who caused the accident, nor damage to the goods of the vehicle or things transported by it when they belong to the policyholder, owner, insured or driver, as well as the spouse or relatives up to the third degree.

Voluntary Insurance (R.C.S.V.):

The insured capital will be that which appears in the particular conditions of the policy. Generally, insurers cover up to 50.000.000 €.

This guarantee covers indemnities to third parties in excess of the compulsory insurance cover.

Some insurers automatically include liability for trailers or caravans under 750 kg, others make it optional, so it is important to check the "General Conditions" of your policy.

Legal Defence (Defence and claims for damages):

Covers the costs of assistance and legal defence of the insured person in procedures derived from an accident, as well as the payment of bonds, legal costs and friendly or judicial claims.

The insurer may offer freedom to choose a lawyer, but with a financial limit. Some set low limits, others allow optional extensions.

This guarantee may also include defence against traffic sanctions: legal guidance, statements of defence and administrative appeals.

Driver and/or Occupant Accidents:

The driver is not covered by compulsory insurance in case of injury or death. It is therefore recommended to take out accident insurance that covers:

* Death capital
* Total or partial disability capital
* Medical-pharmaceutical assistance

In the past, all occupants were covered. Nowadays only the driver is excluded by default, although many insurers allow all seats to be included as an option.

Travel assistance:

This guarantee offers multiple benefits for both the vehicle and the persons transported, even if they travel without the car (depending on the insurer).

Territorial scope: It generally covers Spain, Europe and neighbouring countries for vehicles, and the whole world for people.

Common vehicle performance:
* On-site repair
* Towing to workshop
* Shipment of parts abroad
* Assistance for theft, keys, punctures, etc.
* Dispatch of substitute driver

Occupant benefits:
* Hotel or transfer if car is not repaired
* Medical repatriation
* Displacement of a family member due to hospitalisation
* Reimbursement of medical expenses
* Sending forgotten objects
* Legal defence abroad
* Assistance even if the trip is not in your car (if included)
