SINCO: Motor Insurance History File
When you request a quote to insure your vehicle, it is common to be asked for your policy number and current insurer, or details of another vehicle you have insured.
The reason is simple: about 90 % of insurers have access to the SINCO file, which collects the policyholder's claims history.
This file complies with current data protection regulations, in particular Organic Law 15/1999, of 13 December, and its development through Royal Decree 1720/2007. It is available to all insurance companies that wish to join and allows online consultation of the claims history of the last five years, which helps them to calculate the risk of each customer more accurately.
This means that the price of the insurance you are offered depends on the outcome of this consultation. Thus, good drivers are rewarded and those with a high claims record are penalised.
Like any system, it has advantages and disadvantages for the insured, although at present there are few insurers that are not adhered to this file.
The file contains information on claims related to Civil Liability.
You can consult the list of entities included in the SINCO file.
You can also consult the entities adhered to the Total Loss filewhich applies to total loss, fire and theft warranties.
The entity responsible for these files is UNESPA (Unión Española de Entidades Aseguradoras y Reaseguradoras), and its processing is managed by TIREA (Information Technology and Networking for Insurance Companies).
